I am a futurist keynote speaker and workshop leader. My purpose is to help audiences develop new ways to think about the future so that they have more options, less anxiety and more opportunity to do their best work.
Whether it is self-driving cars, polycrisis, ChaptGPT and AI, or the new world of work, everyone is talking about the future. A better framework and mindset is required however, to turn a fearful rant into a valuable and empowering conversation.
With my experience in the speaking world I am aware that we serve both clients and audiences with our message. I have solutions for you to meet your clients’ goals as well as connect with, entertain and help the audience to learn and develop valuable new ways of thinking about the future.
From introductions to futures thinking and futures literacy, to advanced programs, coaching and models, I have a range of topics available to suite a client’s needs.
Two keynote topics stand out as important at the moment:
From the 1970 book by Alvin Toffler on the “shattering stress and disorientation” people suffer with too much change in too short a time, to the 2022 posts by Adam Tooze on a global situation “where the whole is even more dangerous than the sum of the parts”; this keynote acknowledges the legitimate anxiety that many people have about our present, as well as our future, and offers approaches to downregulate that stress, find agency over the future, and move forward with more confidence.
This title was suggested by AI demonstrating that a sophisticated use of artificial intelligence tools can help us be more creative, more efficient, more innovative and more human. There is historic precedent for many modern concerns, but if we don’t think about AI and related developments clearly, then we continue to operate from fear, reducing our intelligence, instead of amplifying it.
Although Futures Thinking / Strategic Foresight, is a relatively new profession, there are many very robust academic and business models for the work we do. I include these models (and the appropriate acknowledgements of intellectual property) when they fit with the topic of the presentation.
I also have my own models that I have created to help audiences visualise and get a handle on the topic. Some of them are metaphors or narrative based while others are more traditional models such as Venn diagrams. All of them are useful for creating a framework through which to view and discuss the as-yet-unknown future.
My position as Global Speakers Federation President starts July 2023.
Some clients enjoy the cache or prestige of having a prominent speaker on their stage.
I am involved in a number of initiatives to raise the profile of speakers in Africa, as well as futurists in Africa. These perspectives, and the books that will accompany them, may also be of value for your clients. Please see more on the topics on the Africa page here.
Futures insights are culturally and locally biased which means that we cannot simply regurgitate trending headlines from one part of the world and believe that they will translate to another.
I have intentionally developed a global perspective in my work, seeking leadership positions, association membership, professional networks and clients from across the globe, so that my work will be more valuable to your clients.
From speaking colleagues, event organisers, clients and audience members, I have received over 110 LinkedIn Recommendations.
Some of my favourite include:
